Highlights of WYSL Rule Changes and Clarifications - Fall 2009
The following summary highlights the WYSL rule changes and clarifications and certain key dates for Fall 2009. This summary is not complete and is qualified in its entirety by the actual rules set forth in the WYSL’s Handbook, to which reference is made.
Updates and Seasonal Changes
Roster Changes. Article I.2.C. Deadline for roster changes and additions is the third scheduled game of the season (October 4, changes must be made by October 2).
Silent Sunday. Article IV(6). This season, Silent Sunday will be in effect for the games to be played on October 18, 2009, the fourth scheduled Sunday of the season.
Scheduling of TBS Games. Article X.3. TBS games must be scheduled before the third schedule game of season (i.e., by October 2).
Permanent Changes/Clarifications (minor changes omitted)
Elimination of Special Transfer Rules for High School Players. Former Article I.2.5(5) was deleted.
Elimination of Special Rules for Girls High School Players. Since high school boys and girls teams now have the same seasons and are treated the same, a number of special rules and exceptions relating to girls’ fall high school teams have been eliminated.
Forfeits. Article VI.2. This rule has been clarified to provide that a forfeit will be declared if an injury or ejection causes the number of players on a team to fall below the specified minimum.
Protest Procedures. Article VIII..2.A(4). The rule has been amended slightly to provide for protests to be sent to the League by hard copy and email, with any required copies to the other club (in the case of non-game-related protests) to be sent by email. Appendix C was similarly amended.
Team Divisions. Article IX.1.A. Specific reference to six-team divisions has been eliminated.
Postponements. Article X.1. The “ODP exception” has been broadened to apply to all mandatory ODP events.
Rescheduling Procedures. Article X.3.A and B. These rules have been changed to clarify that the “two reasonable dates” for make-ups will generally be Saturdays unless mutually agreed by the teams involved.
Permission to Travel. Article XII.3 has been changed to reflect current ENYYSA procedures, recently notified to the League, that no permission to travel is required for games within USYSA Region 1 (all states north and east of Virginia).
