Announces Support of the WYSL Select BU15 Team

PRESS RELEASE:

February 1, 2014 (New Rochelle, NY):  The Nick Tanelli Children’s Soccer Foundation announced today that it would provide five scholarships to players on the WYSL Select BU15 Team that will be travelling to Europe this summer to represent the WYSL in the No. 1 Cup in Denmark and the Gothia Cup in Sweden.

“I participated in a similar trip when I was a young player and it remains one of the greatest trips of my life.  I have always dreamed of taking a youth team to Europe so that they could experience what I experienced as a young man, but coming up with the requisite financing was daunting.  The support of the Tanelli Foundation makes our trip possible and enables us to invite players who would otherwise not be able to afford to participate”, said Tom Fritsch, BU15 Select Team Manager.

“It is our great pleasure to support the young men of the WYSL Select Program and we hope their trip to Europe is successful both on and off the field”, added Beth Holmes Tanelli, President of the Tanelli Foundation.  “Supporting this venture is a great way for us to celebrate Nick’s life and continue his legacy.”

About The Nick Tanelli Children’s Soccer Foundation, by Beth Holmes Tanelli

The Nick Tanelli Children’s Soccer Foundation is a non-profit organization providing scholarships for children to play organized soccer and provide funding for purchasing of soccer equipment, soccer camps and leagues, and improvement and/or refurbishment of soccer fields in North Caldwell, Essex County, and the tri-state area. The foundation was formed in the spring of 2013, shortly after Nick’s sudden and tragic death on January 4, 2013.

Nick was born in Macchia Valfortore, Italy in 1963. His parents lived in Italy where Nick was conceived, but Nick’s father left Italy to pursue a college education in the United States. One month after Nick was born, both his parents immigrated to Verona, NJ. His parents valued hard work and education. They wanted a better life for their family. Mr. Tanelli became a teacher and professor of Italian as his wife cared for their two sons while working as a seamstress. Their house was full of love, hard work, and American dreams.

While growing up, Nick was an avid sports fan and participant. He played basketball and track, but his true passion was soccer. He loved the sport and enjoyed playing in leagues and camps. As Nick pursued a college education from Columbia University and New York University Law School, he played soccer at the collegiate level. While playing in the Columbia University Soccer team, he helped the nationally ranked team earn second place in the national championships!

Nick worked as an attorney for Citi Group for fifteen years and most recently for JP Morgan Chase for the past two years. Nick and I met in 2003 and we married in 2004, fifteen months later, and began our life together in the Caldwells, NJ. We both adore children and dreamt of a family of our own. We had a long and difficult experience having children, but we were finally blessed with two children; Matthew born in 2006 and Isabella born in 2008. Nick and I promised to create a loving and supportive family environment to raise our children. Nick’s life and dreams ended much too early, as he passed away on January 4, 2013.

This foundation will help keep his name alive as it helps children grow and flourish while playing soccer. Nick would be so proud to know his legacy will live on forever. Thank you for your efforts in keeping his dreams alive, as I have pledged to support his two passions, children and soccer.
