Obviously a lot has happened over the last week and the 2012 Turkey Bowl is responding to Hurricane Sandy and the destruction she has caused on Long Island. As a result this year’s annual event will take place on the weekend of 11/17 and 11/18 and will have a few changes. All information will be available on BOTN by Wednesday.
Here are the specifics for this year’s event:
- 1.Teams will play on their normal LIJSL day(one day - Saturday or Sunday)
- 2. The fee will be $250 per team and each team will need to register on Sports Signup (link will be available on BOTN Wednesday)
- 3. Each team will play two 50 minute games
- 4. All games will be played on Town Of Bay turf fields throughout the Town of Oyster Bay
- 5. The tournament still has the same attitude with no standings and an emphasis on sportsmanship, fair play and helping our community
- 6. We will have boxes at all fields were we ask all players to bring 2 cans of food and 2 pieces of clothing(new or close to new). We will also have a box collecting unused toys(you know the ones, the ones sitting in the back of the closet)
- 7.All monies….100%…..will go towards families in need! There are no administrative costs! BOTN is donating advertising and will be making other contributions, Sports Sign-Up is donating their normal fees and we have other companies lined up to help with this cause.
- 8. As in the past we will need volunteer refs and all teams should be prepared to supply a parent (we all have one) that learn from officiating a game-just in case.
- 9. Our goal is to raise $50,000!
- 10. As in the past, please contact me (soccerdale1234@aol.com) with names of families that could use help.
- 11. Please pass this information on to all teams in your club.
BOTTOM LINE….Long Island is a great place, with families with big hearts. Let’s all get together and make a difference!
More information to follow!
