Dear WYSL Players and Parents, June 3, 2014
The WYSL to Join US Club Soccer:
The Board of Directors of the Westchester Youth Soccer League, upon recommendation of our Directional Planning Committee, has voted unanimously to affiliate exclusively with US Club Soccer starting Fall 2014.
This change of affiliation from Eastern New York Soccer Association/ USYSA to US Club will allow the WYSL to offer our players a soccer governing model with a minimum of rules and regulations, not focused on restricting players, but rather focused on the allowing greater flexibility to better serve the needs of the players while giving them greater opportunities for development and play at the appropriate level of competition.
The WYSL board is grateful to Eastern New York for providing structure to the many leagues of our state and promoting and coordinating state-wide programs for many years, but their inter-state and regional programs such as State Cup, Olympic Development Program and Regional Premier Leagues have been in a steady decline in terms of participation and quality, to the point now where they are no longer a viable option for our players and teams.
US Club’s Federation sanctioned leagues and programs such as; National Premiere League (NPL), Élite Club National League (ECNL), National Cup, State Championship (New York Cup), id2 (Olympic Development Identification Program), Player Development Program (PDP), Director of Coaching Diploma, NSCAA Licensing program, and much more will now be available options for us under the US Club Soccer banner. A complete listing with further details about the mission and programs of US Club Soccer can be found at: www.usclubsoccer.org
The WYSL board of directors felt that it is in the best interest of our League, clubs, teams and players to affiliate with a more comprehensive, responsive and progressive association under US Soccer Federation.
The WYSL in the coming months is committed to make this transition as smooth as possible. The over 370 games played each weekend by our 20,125 players from Manhattan to Ramapo, will continue to go on as they have for the last 35 years. The changes you will be seeing will be in the quality, range of programs being offered and level of competition that will now be available to us.
The major interactions and functions with our League office will not change. We will continue with SportsSignup as our player registration software provider so your registration procedure will look and function the same as it is today.
All of this will be offered this fall more efficiently and at a reduced cost.
We are very excited about all the new benefits US Club soccer will bring to you and your club. The Board and I are continuing to work for you to explore ways to advance soccer for the all players of Westchester, Rockland and Manhattan.
All the Best in Soccer,
Julian DiDonato, President
